Tech Team
Serving on the Tech Team is the most thankless spot to serve. If everything goes right, nobody knows what we're doing in the tech booth. If something goes wrong, all eyes turn back to you (and wondering what you're doing back there). But for people who like this kind of stuff, it's totally fine. We aren't looking for the praises of man, we are wanting to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The role of the CCTM tech team is to serve others by using technology ( computers, projectors, sound board, etc.) to:
1. Help the Worship Team sound as good as possible by mixing the vocals and instruments well while avoiding feedback and static.
2. Display the words to the songs so everybody can sing along while avoiding the distraction of late slide changes.
3. Provide a live-stream that is visually and audibly appealing to the viewer so God's Word can go forth without the distraction of poor quality mixing/switching.
Whether you desire to serve with the Live Stream, the Slides, or the Sound Board, all of these things have their own challenges, especially the sound board.

Live Stream
While serving with the Live Stream, your role is to switch video sources and check audio levels. During the Pre-Service time, the live stream should be displaying the announcement loop slides so viewers can know what is coming up and have something to see while waiting for service to start. During Worship, you will switch camera angles to make a visually appealing video stream while the lyrics are displaying on the lower-third of the screen. During the Main Service, you will be switching from camera angles to cross-reference slides so viewers can read the verses that are being discussed.
A successful video is one that allows the viewer to worship with the Worship Team, stay engaged with the Pastor, and grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Because "faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." (Rom. 10:17)

Slides
Running the slides is no easy task. It requires a heart for worship, and a tolerance of (sometimes glitchy) technology. You will be responsible for having the correct slide up at the correct time. And if you don't, be prepared for people to turn around and give you a look. Granted, it is not always the slide operator's fault when things don't go as planned, but it is good to take your job seriously and do your best. When the lyrics to the songs are displayed on cue every time, it really helps facilitate that time of worship. Not everyone will know all the words to every song. And of course, there are going to be new songs. So being on cue is important because we want to be serving the people, not distracting the people.
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ " Colossians 3:23-24

Sound Board
This is one of the most difficult roles to learn. You have to mix all the other instruments properly to get a good sound. Not every musician on the worship team will be professional-grade, but you still have to make them sound their best. This takes a lot of learning, and a lot of practice. Think of the sound board as a musical instrument, and your a musician. How many musicians do you know can just pick up an instrument and start playing beautifully without any practice? Not many. The sound board takes practice as well. A guitar player has to know what his hands must do to make different chords. A vocalist needs to learn how to project and stay on pitch. A piano player must know what all those black and white buttons do. And a sound engineer needs to know the mixing board. There's gain and trim levels, EQ structure, gates, compressors, reverb, delays, and much more. Then you have to consider how doing one thing effects the other things. It is definitely a skill set that takes learning and practice. Playing an instrument can really help you run the sound board because you can watch all the training videos you want, but having an ear for it takes even longer.
After saying all this, I don't want you to feel like we don't want you to serve on the sound team. We are happy to teach what we know and build up new sound technicians for His Kingdom!

Clicking the "Sound Board Training" button will take you to my favorite sound board training YouTube channel, Attaway Audio. The link is for a short 4-part intro playlist, but feel free to watch any and all of his videos because you can learn so much from him.
